Modernized Original Nintendo

WiiNES

February 2009

Personal Project

The WiiNES is a modified Nintendo Wii that has been fitted into an original NES housing.  Custom mounting hardware for the Wii circuit boards and plastics were made to give the appearance that the unit was a standard NES.  New cooling fans and controls were developed to work with the NES housing as well as custom circuit boards to relocate the I/O ports from the original Wii circuit board to the rear and side of the NES housing.

The WiiNES also features integrated micro controllers that allow for users to play original Nintendo games, from the Virtual Console or a HomeBrew disc, with an original NES controller.  This is accomplished by converting the signals from the NES controller to signals of a GameCube controller, which the Wii can identify.
